CATECHIST (Teacher)
What is a CATECHIST?
The word catechist comes from the Greek word “echo”.   Catechists are people who ECHO the Word of God.
 
The Mission of a Catechist is such an important one. It is a mission that has been given to the whole Church: that every individual Christian shares in the work of Jesus Church.
 
Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • A practicing catholic in good standing
  • Attends weekly Mass
  • Has a love for children
  • The desire to grow in faith and share that journey with young people
  • The ability to relate well to others
  • A sense of humor and flexibility
  • A willingness to be of service to the church
 
Please consider volunteering as a catechist to teach either the primary levels K to 6 or junior high levels 7 and 8.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Prepare lessons using a teacher’s Manual and other available resources.
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes before class to set up and greet students.
  • Teach a class (60 minutes) each week
  • Clean up after class
  • All volunteers working with children must attend a Virtus class and be fingerprinted. Virtus Training and fingerprinting are mandated by the Diocese for all volunteers.
 
 
SUBSTITUTE CATECHIST
If you are not available to be in a classroom every week, would you like to sign up to help us out as a substitute on an as needed basis?

CLASSROOM AIDES
Would you like to be a hands-on helper in the classroom? Our catechists would value your assistance and our children need your caring presence. Teens are welcome.
